MCYH Learn to Skate

Mason City’s Learn to Skate program is designed with the absolute beginner skater in mind. Each session consists of two 30-minute classes per week for a total of 12 weeks. Students will learn the basics of skating while developing the agility, balance, and coordination necessary for hockey and figure skating.

• Ice Skates and helmets are required (both are available to rent, however the number of helmets we have is limited) and additional padding optional, but recommended
• Students should dress in warm clothing; gloves are highly recommended
• No hockey sticks or pucks
• Students will constantly be evaluated, and can be moved into Learn to Play as soon as the coaches deem them ready

Pricing

• $50 per student for the full 12-week session, beginning Jan. 5
• $38 per student for first late registration, beginning Feb. 2 (9 weeks)
• $25 per student for second late registration, beginning Feb. 26 (6 weeks)
• $12 per student for third late  late registration period, beginning March 19 (3 weeks)

General Schedule

The weekly schedule is subject to change, but the general schedule will be as follows:

Wednesdays

• Group 1 - 6:00-6:30 pm
• Group 2 - 6:30-7:00 pm

Saturdays

• Group 1 - 9:00-9:30 am
• Group 2 - 9:30-10:00 am

MCYH Learn to Play Hockey

The Mason City Mohawk’s Learn to Play program is the next step following the completion of Learn to Skate. Each session consists of two 1 hour classes per week for a total of 12 weeks. Students will continue to develop their skating skills while being introduced to basic hockey skills such as puck handling, passing, and shooting. Upon completion, students will be ready to join our youth hockey program!

• Full hockey padding and stick is required. Skates will still be available to rent
• Brand new sets of full gear (minus skates and stick) are available for Learn to Play students to rent for the whole session. These equipment packages require a deposit check of $175 - upon the return of the equipment, the check will be shredded and nullified
• Students will constantly be evaluated, and can be moved into our youth hockey program at their specific age group as soon as the coaches deem them ready
